My Vessel, My Rock, My Anchor is Blackhorse Activators' response to Swedish artist Max Göran's artwork Dieseline Dreams in the form of a fanzine. In a workshop led by designer Tommy Brentnall, the Activators journeyed into the interior world of the artist-truck driver protagonist in Göran's film, narrating encounters 'at trucker speed' laced with freedom, loneliness and nostalgia evoked by the open road.
Inspired by Göran's artwork, diesel, fan fiction and Surrealist parlour game Exquisite Corpse, Blackhorse Activators worked with Brentnall to develop a zine narrative. Using web-builder tool straw.page, together they collated materials to illustrate the zine, including found and original digital photographs, drawings and memes. The Activators developed a design brief for Brentnall, specifying an overall scheme reflecting the monotony of tarmac. The workshop is the second event in a two-part collaboration between Cell Project Space and Blackhorse Activators. You can read about the first workshop Mouldings here.
